Solution
We met this challenge easily as we did for many Stillwater homes after a large hail storm damaged hundreds of roofs in the area. During our initial free inspection, we found some causes for concern, one of which was the insufficient flashing around the chimney. This old-fashioned flashing could eventually fail and allow water in around the chimney, which can lead to mold growth or water leaks inside the house.
We put modern flashing around the chimney to prevent and water infiltration, as well as a new ridge vent to help move moist air from inside the house to the outside. This increases the energy efficiency of the house, and reduces the risk of ice dams in the winter. The homeowners were also happy for the opportunity to update the look of their home with new Tamko Heritage 30 in Mountain Slate shingles.
