Wind had torn sections of vinyl siding off this home. Trinity Exteriors detached and reset the siding so it can protect the home from rain and future hail storms.

After inspecting the roof decking, we replaced some areas that didn't meet code. Spaces between decking planks can contribute to moisture failure for shingles.

Challenge

Our challenge with this roof replacement and siding repair project in Farmington, MN was to make the roof as hail resistant as possible for future storms. The Minneapolis area typically sees one to two large hail storms each year that affects thousands of homes, and as much as Trinity Exteriors takes the worries away from the restoration process to create a positive experience, most people want to avoid going through large restoration projects if they can.

Solution

To help these Farmington homeowners prepare against future storms, we started with the basis of the project. After a free roof inspection, we determined the decking for the roof was within building code with no major gaps or "mushy" spots, so moisture could not attack the integrity of the shingles substrate from below.

Next, we used an Ice & Water Barrier as an additional layer of protection against driving water and rain. Over the barrier, we installed Tamko Heritage Impact Resistant shingles. These shingles are tested to withstand Class 4 hail stones, which are among the largest found in storms. While manufacturers cannot guarantee absolute shingle resistance, these shingles have shown an increase in durability over other classes of shingles. The homeowners loved the Thunderstorm Grey color and the extra assurance of hail resistance.
