Eastern Minnesota is no stranger to severe hailstorms. The storm that ruined this asphalt shingle roof and skylights happened in May of 2015. The homeowners contact Twin Cities roofing contractor Trinity Exteriors for a free roof inspection and were not suprised to hear their roof would need to be replaced. The skylights also had to go, since denting and scuffing were evident on the glass.
We started the project by tearing off all the old shingles to inspect the decking, which was in great shape. After putting down the requisite Ice & Water Barrier, we installed the homeowners' choice of new shingle: GAF Timberline Prestique HD Weathered Wood. We replaced the 10 skylights with new Velux skylights, and we took the opportunity to properly flash each skylight. On our inspection we saw the original flashing for the skylights was faulty, which can contribute to leaking around the skylights. With proper flashing, however, the interior of the house is no longer at risk for water damage.
